Crawford, K. (due for publication 2011) ‘Rethinking the Student/Teacher Nexus: students as observers of teaching practice’ in M. Neary, H. Stevenson and L. Bell (Eds) Towards Teaching in Public: Reshaping the Modern University: Continuum
This book is due for completion and publication in 2011. It will form a companion volume to The Future of Higher Education: Policy, Pedagogy and the Student Experience (see below – Bell, Stevenson and Neary 2009), previously published by Continuum. This book will build on the pedagogical ideas developed in the previous volume, through a radical understanding of the concept of Teaching in Public.
Crawford, K. (2009) ‘Continuing Professional Development in Higher Education – tensions and debates in a changing environment’ in M. Neary, H. Stevenson, and L. Bell (eds) The Future of Higher Education: Policy, Pedagogy and the Student Experience Continuum
This very contemporary edited book published in April 2009 by Continuum Books, is a compilation of work by my colleagues in the University of Lincoln’s Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD). It comprehensively explores policy, pedagogy and the student experience in higher education at a conceptual level, enabling university staff to place their own work within a wider theoretical framework and to develop their own understandings of some of the key controversies that surround teaching and learning in higher education.
My contribution is chapter 6 ‘Continuing Professional Development in Higher Education: tensions and debates in a changing environment’. This chapter is placed in Part Two of the book which has been edited by Professor Les Bell and is about ‘Pedagogy and the Institutional Context’. The chapter reports on the findings of my pilot study into academics’ views and experiences of professional development in one case study University in England. The study has informed the development of the larger comparative multi-case study that was my doctoral research.
